Dr. Larry Delver honoured by CBBC
Dr. Larry Delver was honoured by the Canadian Beef Breeds Council with the presentation of the Don Matthews Award for Excellence in Animal Health. This award was instituted in honour of the late Don Matthews, Angus breeder, and a past President and driving force behind the Canadian Beef Breeds Council.
Matthews had a passion for matters relating to animal health and international trade, foundational pillars of the Council.
The Award is presented by the Board of Directors of the Council to individuals who have contributed exemplary service to the development of the Canadian purebred beef cattle industry in the field of animal health.
The presentation was made by Rob Matthews of Highland Stock Farms at the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Beef Breeds Council, held on March 26th, 2013. Rob is a son of the late Don Matthews.
Rob priased Dr. Delver for his work with the Federal Government when he served as a Federal Veterinarian and his many years of service and contribution to the industry. Larry was described “as one who understood the beef cattle industry and was still working to help market quality and healthy Canadian genetics.”
The award was well deserved according to exporter Gary Smith who said “Larry was one of the good ones; he always made sure we followed the health protocols and the regulations but he was there to help the producer.”
Dr. Delver is still active in the industry and served on the Boards of the Western Stock Growers, Alberta Beef Producers, Alberta Farm Animal Care, Canadian Cattlemens’ Association and the Canada AgriFood Trade Alliance. He also runs his own herd of Red Angus cattle and is activly developing beef breeding projects in Malaysia and Vietnam.
Previous recipients of the Don Matthews Award were Dr. Brian Evans, Dr. Matt Taylor, Dr. Norm Willis and Bob Prestage.
