The Speckle Park breed originated in Saskatchewan, Canada which makes them the first and only breed to be developed in Saskatchewan. Speckle Park cattle come in a variety of colors but the preferred color pattern are the speckled animals. They are predominantly black with a white top line and underline, with speckled hips and sometimes, shoulders, and with a black or black roan face. The second color pattern is the leopard pattern. It is similar to the speckled pattern but there are definite black spots on the animals instead of just speckles. The white animals with some black hair on the body are also considered 'leopards'. The third color pattern is the 'white' pattern. The white animals have white hair on the body and face but have black points, ie. eyes, ears, nose, and hooves. Only the females of this color pattern are eligible for identification.

With their heavy hair coat, Speckle Park adapt well to the cold Canadian winters. The black points on the animals eyes, ears, nose, and feet and the black mottled skin under the hair coat lend themselves to few health problems.

Speckle Park are a moderate size animal. Mature cows weigh in at about 1200 lbs. and mature bulls at 2000 lbs. or better. Calves average 75 lbs. at birth and wean at about 550 - 575 lbs. The animals are polled, thus saving their owners the extra time and expense of dehorning. Speckle Park cattle are known for the following traits:

  • Consistently high quality carcass
  • Calving ease and good maternal instinct
  • Feed efficient
  • Docile nature
  • Hardy&healthy
