Over the past 35 years the Canadian Simmental has grown in popularity, becoming one of the nation's most influential breeds. Its outstanding growth and performance, along with unbeatable milk and mothering abilities, have resulted in the superior Canadian Simmental beef animal of today. In fact, in Canada and around the world, the Simmental female is recognized as one of the best mother cows in the commercial cattle industry. Cattlemen have found them to be useful, docile animals that possess admirable meat, muscle and carcass characteristics. These attributes enable the Simmental to cross extremely well with both British and continental cattle breeds. The unparalleled success of the Canadian Simmental is widely recognized with the breed's superior genetics found in many countries around the world.

The Canadian Simmental Association (CSA), as the national organization focused on the development of the breed and its distinctive strengths, is continually working to deliver services that enhance the breed's performance and marketability. Through the Association's performance and maternal data recording programs, breeders benefit from having accurate, precise and up-to-date records the can be used to identify cattle within a herd, and within the breed, that excel in particular traits. Such records also enable the CSA to continue to develop responsive programs that assist cattlemen in identifying and selecting cattle that stand out for various, highly heritable and economically important traits, ultimately strengthening the breed and creating a superior animal.

The identification of these traits is enabling Simmental to continue to quickly advance their genetics to meet and exceed the present and future needs the beef industry. The selection and breeding programs implemented by Simmental breeders and the CSA, along with the superior genetic ability of Simmental cattle, have all contributed to the present-day success of the breed.
